Last week, I did some reading on Intermittent fasting (IF) and I got pretty intrigued. If you already don’t know what IF is and how it works then let me explain to you in as simple and ‘less’ words as possible. Intermittent fasting is about scheduling your meals during the day.You basically fast for 16 hours and then you have an 8 hour window to eat whatever you want and as much as you like and then you go back to the fasting period. Fasting in this way is known to keep the bad weight aka ‘fat weight’ off your back and helps regulate your metabolism.
I read this wonderful article about intermittent fasting and loved how the author described it.
“Intermittent fasting is not a diet, it’s a pattern of eating. It’s a way of scheduling your meals so that you get the most out of them. Intermittent fasting doesn’t change what you eat, it changes when you eat.”
Honestly, this is what sold me on Intermittent Fasting. The fact that you don’t have to quit eating what you like but plan to eat it in such a way that your body can digest it properly. The real problem with most diets is that you have to eliminate a certain kind of food group and the affects only last as long as you are on the diet. The moment you go back to your old routine and eating habits, the weight starts creeping up again. Eliminating an entire food group or certain kinds of foods forever from their lives maybe easy for some people but for most, it is an impossible task. I love my desserts and I love them drenched in chocolate. I may leave all the sweet stuff for a month or two to get in shape but don’t you ever ask me to quit it for life.
So, there are different ways of doing intermittent fasting. You can do a 16 hour fast on alternate days or you can do it for the whole week. There is another method in which you fast for full 24 hours. Some people like to do it once a month to reset their digestive system. Presently, I am trying this intermittent fasting for a week to see what kind of results it bestows on my body and my weight loss efforts. Today is only my second day and I can tell you this – it is totally doable. My suggestion is go for 8 pm to 12 pm fasting schedule. You stop eating after 8 pm at night and continue to fast until 12 pm the next day. From 12 pm until 8 pm, eat your lunch, eat your dinner and eat whatever you like in between. Let me know if you have ever tried intermittent fasting and if it worked for you. I’ll give you my feedback in a weeks time. 😉
