You must have heard this statement, “Oh just wait till your child enters his terrible twos. Your life will be upside down. Oh, and their tantrums are the worst. Good luck surviving those too.” When you hear such pleasant words of encouragement from fellow moms, your heart just lights up, right? Wrong! You kinda wanna strangle them for breaking your blissfully ignorant bubble. Sure, it would have burst on its own in a couple months time but seriously, you can let a mama enjoy few good months of peace before the Hurricane T2 hits.
My hurricane came a bit early. He started showing his first signs of toddlerdom at 16 months and I literally lost my mind first week in. He would throw a tantrum every 5 minutes and I, being 5 months pregnant with my second child, would want to curl up in a ball and cry in a corner. That’s when I told my husband we need to get help! So, we went to our favorite book store and started looking for some miracle book that would help us deal with this godawful stage of our little kid.
Enter New Toddler Taming – A parents’ guide to the first four years by Dr. Christopher Green. This book caught my eye among hundreds of others in the parenting section because of its sheer name. Tell me, won’t your eyes sparkle if you read two words, ‘Toddler’ and ‘Taming together in one line? So, the book came home and I went at it right away. The first problem it helped me handle was Rayan’s frequent tantrum cries. The one thing I was struggling to deal with for weeks and all I had to do was follow Dr. Green’s advise for only 5 minutes. Lo and behold, I had learned the art of handling my boy’s boredom tantrums just like that.
I can tell you this is the one book, and perhaps the only book you need to read if you want to learn the tricks (that actually work) of managing toddlers. This book works because it’s written by a Peadritician who has worked with children for over 30 years and has helped thousands of parents deal with a plethora of typical and atypical toddler concerns. It covers every single parenting woe under the sun and tells you exactly what to do, and how to act in some of the most common, typical yet extremely testing parenting situations.
Just to give you an idea about the depth of this book. It covers topics like Toddler Triggers and Tantrums, Discipling, Sleep Problems, Toilet Training, Feeding Problems, Habits and Fears, Daycare and School time, Early Learning, Sibling Rivalry, Tips for Single Parents, Working Parents, Grand Parents, and dealing with Special Needs children. Moreso, this book is so easy to read that even those who detest reading (God knows why) won’t be able to put it down until they finish it.
I am not going to say anything more about this miracle book than to really ask you to go and read this book. You will not regret it and I can promise you will feel super in control and confident about your parenting skills after reading this book. In case you already have a favorite then do share the details with me in comments. I would love to see if any other parenting book comes close to this level of easy perfection.
Yes, I just openly challenged ya’ll folks! 😀
